The Reaper Cuttlefish (Sepia mestus) is distributed along the east coast of Australia from the waters of southern Queensland to Eden in southern New South Wales. It can be found inhabiting rocky coastal reefs in water depths from 5 to 30 metres. They can often be found lying under crevices sleeping during the day and they become more active at night when they start searching the reef for food. The Reaper Cuttlefish is generally a bright red to maroon colour however it is also capable of changing it’s colours similar to that of other cuttlefish species. They can often be found in pairs together and the Reaper Cuttlefish has a maximum mantle length of approximately 14cm.
