Gunns Leatherjacket(Eubalichthys gunnii)
Gunns Leatherjacket


The Gunn's Leatherjacket (Eubalichthys gunnii) is found in the waters of southern Australia from Wilson’s Promontory in Victoria around to the waters of South Australia. It can also be found around Tasmania. The juveniles have a mosaic pattern that is grey to brown with light interspacing. The juveniles are similar in appearance to juvenile Mosaic Leatherjacket’s (Eubalichthys mosaicus). The adults have are more elongate body that is generally greenish to a yellowish brown colour. Juveniles can be found close to shore in shallow waters and estuaries and can often been found amongst rocky reefs with kelp or under jetties. Adults prefer to inhabitat deeper rocky reefs to depths of 150m. The Gunn's Leatherjacket grows to a maximum size of approximately 60 cm.
