The Beaked Coralfish (Chelmon rostratus) is a tropical fish species that belongs to the Butterfly Fish family (Chaetodontidae). It can be found from the Andaman Sea off Thailand to Australia, and is known to occur in the coral reefs of Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. In Australia it can be found around the Gulf of Carpentaria, along the entire Great Barrier Reef and into the northern waters of New South Wales.
The Beaked Coralfish can be recognised by its extremely long and pointed snout and a black spot at the posterior base of its dorsal fin. Juveniles look very similar to adults and are generally observed as individuals. Adults can generally be found in pairs. They are often seen moving in about corals of inshore coral reefs and islands. They grow to a maximum size of approximately 20cm.
