Striped Boxfish(Ostracion solorensis)
Striped Boxfish


The Striped Boxfish (Ostracion solorensis) is a tropical fish species that is a member of the ‘Boxfishes’ family Ostraciidae. It is known to occur in the warm tropical waters of the Western Pacific and has been recorded from Christmas Island in the eastern Indian Ocean and Indonesia across to Fiji, north to the Philippines and in the northern section of the Great Barrier Reef. It has also been recorded in Tonga. This species can be found on coral reefs however it is seldom seen; it generally hides under ledges and coral. Males have blue colouration whilst the females are coloured yellow. The males have stripes around its cheeks whilst the rear end is spotted. Females tend to have lines covering the entire body. The Striped Boxfish (Ostracion solorensis) grows to a maximum length of approximately 11cm.
