The Australian Gregory (Stegastes apicalis) is a tropical fish species that is considered to be endemic to the waters of eastern Australia. There are apparently reports of it from Taiwan and the Loyalty Islands. In Australia it is known to occur along the entire Great Barrier Reef down to the Solitary Islands Marine Park in northern NSW. The body is generally dark brown in colour with the top of the dorsal fin having a yellow-orange margin. The tips of the pelvic and anal fins are coloured blue. This species can be found living on coral reefs with other Damselfishes (Family: Pomacentridae) and often darts into coral branches to hide from approaching divers. The Australian Gregory (Stegastes apicalis) grows to a maximum length of approximately 15cm.
