Multi Pore Seastar


The Multi Pore Seastar (Linckia multifora) is a common species that is found throughout the warm tropical waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. This species belongs to the family Ophidiasteridae and is closely related to the larger Blue Seastar Linckia laevigata. This species can be found on coral and rocky reefs from the low tide zone down to depths of at least 45 metres. This species is known to feed on algae and detritus and can be seen by divers feeding during the day and night. This species has the ability to reproduce by deliberately shedding an arm and then four new arms will grow from it. The Multi Pore Seastar (Linckia multifora) has a maximum arm width of approximately 10cm.
