The Jewel Anemone (Corynactis australis) is a small and very brightly coloured anemone species that belongs to the family Corallimorphidae. It can be found in the waters of south-eastern Australia and is known to occur from Port Phillip Bay in Victoria, around Tasmania to the waters of northern New South Wales. It has been recorded from depths of 2 to 30 metres. This species likes to live in shady areas and can often be found in caves and under overhangs and also on shipwrecks. They form large colonies and may cover the entire wall of a cave. This species can vary in colour (pink, purple, red, orange and brown), which can have a very colourful effect on the wall of a cave. At the end of each tentacle there is a small knob that is a common feature of this species. The Jewel Anemone (Corynactis australis) has a maximum diameter of approximately 1.5cm.
