Blue Ribbon Eel(Rhinomuraena quaesita)
Blue Ribbon Eel

The Blue Ribbon Eel (Rhinomuraena quaesita) is a very colourful eel species that can be found throughout the central and western Pacific to islands of western Indian Ocean. The most obvious feature of a ribbon eel is large anterior nostrils that sit out very high of their top jaw. Adult males are blue on the body with yellow markings on the head (see image above). Juveniles and sub adults have black bodies with a yellow dorsal fin whilst females are yellow all over except for a black anal fin and small white margins on their fins. They can be seen with their heads protruding out of reef rubble or small holes in the reef. It grows to a maximum size of approximately 130 cm.
