The Oriental Sweetlips (Plectorhinchus vittatus) is a tropical fish species that belongs to the Haemulidae (Sweetlips) family. It is found throughout the waters of the Indo-Western Pacific region and can be found from east Africa to Australian and Samoa and north to the waters of south-west Japan. The Oriental Sweetlips looks very similar in appearance to the Diagonal-banded Sweetlips (Plectorhinchus lineatus). This species can be distinguished by the black diagonal stripes that run along length of the body from the front of the head to the tail. The fins of this species are coloured yellow as the front of the face.
This species can often be found in small groups on tropical coral reefs and in lagoons from depths of 2 to 30 metres. Juveniles are generally solitary and can often be found in shallow water hiding in the reef. The Oriental Sweetlips (Plectorhinchus vittatus) grows to a maximum length of approximately 85cm.
