Diagonal banded Sweetlips(Plectorhinchus lineatus)
Diagonal banded Sweetlips

The Diagonal-banded Sweetlips (Plectorhinchus lineatus) is a tropical fish species that belongs to the Haemulidae (Sweetlips) family. This species can be found throughout the warm waters of the western Pacific region and has been found in locations such as Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and the northern section of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

The juveniles look very different to the adults as they have five thick black stripes that run along the length of the body with yellow colouration on the tips of the fins and yellow on the face. These lines start to disappear as the fish matures and the stripes become diagonal on the body. Adults have diagonal lines that are coloured dark blue/black which fade into spots as the lines meet the lateral line (middle) of the fish. Adults can often be found in small aggregations schooling over coral reefs whilst juveniles tend to be solitary. The Diagonal-banded Sweetlips (Plectorhinchus lineatus) grows to a maximum length of approximately 60cm.
