Bennetts Hypselodoris(Hypselodoris bennetti)
Bennetts Hypselodoris

The Bennett’s Hypselodoris (Hypselodoris bennetti) nudibranch is found in the waters of south-eastern Australia. It has been recorded from southern Queensland, along the entire NSW coast into eastern Victoria. This species is very common along the New South Wales coast. Its pale blue body and a row of red spots down the dorsal midline can distinguish this species. Sometimes these spots are arranged randomly all over the dorsum. It has a yellow margin around its mantle and its gills and rhinophores are a pink/purple colour.

The Bennett’s Hypselodoris is known to feed on the sponge Psammocinia sp which is hard and rough to touch. This species can often be found mating with its reproductive glands forming a ‘bubble’ between two individuals. The Bennett’s Hypselodoris (Hypselodoris bennetti) grows to a maximum length of approximately 5cm but it is more commonly found at 3.5cm or less.
