The Amboin Cleaner Shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis) is larger shrimp species that can be found in the tropical waters of the western Pacific Ocean. It can be easily identified by the single white stripe down the back from head to tail flanked by two red stripes that terminates at the tail. Its body is red/orange in colour. It has an orange underside and legs. The tail has a white stipe down the middle, two white dots at the top edges and white tips on both sides and it has six white antennae.
This Amboin Cleaner Shrimp can often be found cleaning parasites from fish and eels and you can find them cleaning the mouth of a large groper or species such as coral trout. They are typically found in small caves in sheltered areas of the reef setting up cleaning stations for passing fish. These cleaning stations are manned by large groups of the shrimp. They are generally found on rocky and coral reefs and can also be found on shipwrecks in tropical waters. The Amboin Cleaner Shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis) grows to a maximum length of approximately 8cm.
